Danner Boots: A Review of the MyDanner Custom Boots Service

Custom Search

Danner Boots recently launched an incredible service called MyDanner. The program allows you to build your own custom, one-of-a-kind, personalized Danner right from the company’s website.

You can pick the features you want, the fabrics you want to use and even have your name embossed into the leather. If you want, you can even go watch the boot be made in Danner Boots’ Portland, OR factory.

For fans of Danners, this is an incredible new service that takes customization to a whole new level, but how does it measure up? Is it worth the cost? And is all that customization really necessary? For a full review of the Danner Boots’ MyDanner program, keep reading.

Price Review

With the MyDanner program, there are two packages to choose from. The first is the BuildIt option, which starts at $600 and lets customers customize their boot basics on the website. The boots are then delivered by mail order.

Considering a basic pair of Danner boots will typically cost you between $200 and $300, this is a hefty price to pay for customization. Admittedly, you’re getting boots made to your exact specifications and standards, but you have to ask if that’s worth an extra $300?

The second package is the Premium package. This includes a two nights at a Portland hotel, a private tour of the factory, a custom boot fitting, the chance to hand pick your leather and the option of seeing your boots get made. With a price tag of $1500, this is more of a vacation than a simple pair of boots.

Again, the extra $1200 spent on the premium package is definitely about the experience and not the boot. If you’re going to pay this much, you better be a huge fan of Danner Boot products.

The Danner Boots MyDanner Service Review

The basic service itself is actually fairly simple and surprisingly fast. Customers log on to the website at http://www.mydanner.com and click ‘Build It.’

From there, they’re taken to a page that allows them to choose their basic Danner model (the Santiam, the Rainforest, etc). Once they’ve picked their boot, they get to play with options like GORE-TEX, hardware, pockets and other features.

The whole process typically takes between two to three weeks, which is pretty good considering they have to receive the order, confirm it, make the boot and mail it out. That said, for $600, it should be good.

In addition, you’re getting American-made boots from an American company – meaning when you call up to check your order, you’re talking to someone in Portland.

The Final Word

Danner Boots are great and if you’re a fan of the company, this kind of service could be your dream come true. But, for most us – the price tag is just too high.
