Custom Search

Tony Lama boots have been a cowboy staple since the early part of the twentieth century. Started by Tony Lama, a US Cavalry member, the boot company has grown from a small Texas startup to a national brand known for its high-quality and craftsmanship.

For a full review of Tony Lama Boots, covering price, durability, style and comfort, please keep reading.

Price Points for Tony Lama Footwear

A typical pair of Tony Lama boots will usually run you between $130 and $200. There are higher-end models available for up to $400, but the average price is fairly standard.

Admittedly, it’s a somewhat high price to pay, but it’s in line with the competition when it comes to handcrafted, leather cowboy boots.

Tony Lama Style

Tony Lama boots are cowboy boots. It’s important to point out that these boots are made for working, not for fashion. The style is straightforward and all about that Western look.

Several models come with more embellishments such as color panels, exotic leathers or ornate stitching, but the company doesn’t stray too far from your standard cowboy boot. If you’re looking for a traditional, Western-style cowboy boots, Tony Lama boots can provide it.

Comfort Levels

Tony Lama makes a basic, full welt boot which fits like a standard cowboy boot. The sole is hard and the cushioning is minimal. Depending on your footwear preference, this can be great or somewhat uncomfortable.

Fortunately, Tony Lama boots also makes a series of boots called the Cushion Comfort Series.

These boots retain the same style and craftsmanship, but include a resilient, comfortable and removable insole. This is great news for people who go hard on their boots and want the option of replacing their insoles on a regular basis.

Durability of Tony Lama Boots

Tony Lama footwear is known for its quality – the boots are handcrafted from high-quality leather  and designed for working.

A few years ago, the company came under fire for moving much of its boot production away from its El Paso factory to China. About 35 to 40 percent of the production is outsourced and much of that is concentrated on their lower-end models.

While this has had little to no effect on the overall quality of the boot, it’s definitely upsetting to some customers when their all-American cowboy boots are being outsourced.

However, the boots still stand up as durable, reliable and designed for a hard workday. Tony Lama doesn’t provide a warranty for its soles, but they do warrant all their boots against defects in the workmanship or materials. Returns and repairs typically take about six weeks.

The Final Word

There’s a reason Tony Lama boots have remained one of the top American cowboy boot brands – they make high-quality boots at reasonable prices. Despite outsourcing a large chunk of their manufacturing, the company has continued to maintain its reputation for quality and good prices.
